Live Again Devotions

Day #6

“Thinking Lively Thoughts”

Romans 8:6 (NLT)  So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death.  But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.

The Bible tells us that our thoughts produce who we are (Proverbs 23:7).  Because as you think certain thoughts often, they become thinking patterns and those thinking patterns become behavior patterns.  Those behavior patterns determine who we become.

So, it behooves us to think positive thoughts of life, and not negative thoughts of death.  The results of negative thoughts of death will actually bring death to many areas of our lives (relationships, finances, Christian faith, etc.).  On the other hand, if we think positive thoughts of life, it will result in keeping important things in our lives from dying.

We must protect our thoughts.  Martin Luther said, “You can’t stop a bird from landing on your head.  But you can keep it from building a nest.”   We can’t help bad thoughts from coming into our minds, but we can keep them from staying there.  You have that ability to stop a bad thought from dwelling in your mind.  You can’t say you can’t help yourself because you can help yourself.  The problem is that we want to keep feeding that bad thought because we enjoy it.  Those bad carnal thoughts lead to death (Romans 8:6).  The Apostle Paul admonishes us to think on positive thoughts in Philippians 4:8.  Those positive thoughts will bring abundant life in this present world and eternal life in the world to come.

The Apostle Paul also unveiled the spiritual armor for the Christian soldier in Ephesians, chapter 6.  One of those pieces of armor he disclosed was the helmet of salvation.  That helmet of salvation is to protect our minds from the wiles (or methods) of the enemy.  The enemy understands that if he can get your mind, he’s got you!  So, it’s vital to constantly wear the helmet of salvation to keep you saved.

So think positive thoughts, so you can LIVE AGAIN!
